some notes on prophecy

The Lord has taught me so much about prophecy mostly through answer to prayer helping me overcome my own fear and doubting.  Here are some of my notes.

Isaiah 55:10-11 (NIV) As the rain and the snow come down from heaven, and do not return to it without watering the earth and making it bud and flourish, so that it yields seed for the sower and bread for the eater, so is my word that goes out from my mouth: It will not return to me empty, but will accomplish what I desire and achieve the purpose for which I sent it.

"A true prophet will speak in harmony with the Bible." Isaiah 8:20 (AMP) [Direct such people] to the teaching and to the testimony! If their teachings are not in accord with this word, it is surely because there is no dawn and no morning for them.

Deuteronomy 13:1-3 (AMP)IF A prophet arises among you, or a dreamer of dreams, and gives you a sign or a wonder, And the sign or the wonder he foretells to you comes to pass, and if he says, Let us go after other gods--gods you have not known--and let us serve them, You shall not listen to the words of that prophet or to that dreamer of dreams. For the Lord your God is testing you to know whether you love the Lord your God with all your [mind and] heart and with your entire being.

"A true prophet will exalt God and Christ rather than himself." Jeremiah 1:4-9 (AMP) Then the word of the Lord came to me [Jeremiah], saying, Before I formed you in the womb I knew [and] approved of you [as My chosen instrument], and before you were born I separated and set you apart, consecrating you; [and] I appointed you as a prophet to the nations.  Then said I, Ah, Lord God! Behold, I cannot speak, for I am only a youth.  But the Lord said to me, Say not, I am only a youth; for you shall go to all to whom I shall send you, and whatever I command you, you shall speak.  Be not afraid of them [their faces], for I am with you to deliver you, says the Lord.  Then the Lord put forth His hand and touched my mouth. And the Lord said to me, Behold, I have put My words in your mouth.

2 Corinthians 10:5 (AMP) [Inasmuch as we] refute arguments and theories and reasonings and every proud and lofty thing that sets itself up against the [true] knowledge of God; and we lead every thought and purpose away captive into the obedience of Christ (the Messiah, the Anointed One),

"A true prophet will have visions and dreams." Numbers 12:6 (AMP) And He said, Hear now My words: If there is a prophet among you, I the Lord make Myself known to him in a vision and speak to him in a dream."

"A true prophet will reprove men of sin." Ezekiel 3:17-19 (AMP) Son of man, I have made you a watchman to the house of Israel; therefore hear the word at My mouth and give them warning from Me.  If I say to the wicked, You shall surely die, and you do not give him warning or speak to warn the wicked to turn from his wicked way, to save his life, the same wicked man shall die in his iniquity, but his blood will I require at your hand.  Yet if you warn the wicked and he turn not from his wickedness or from his wicked way, he shall die in his iniquity, but you have delivered yourself.

"A true prophet will emphasize the necessity of Jesus in the heart." 1 John 4:1-3  (AMP) BELOVED, DO not put faith in every spirit, but prove (test) the spirits to discover whether they proceed from God; for many false prophets have gone forth into the world. By this you may know (perceive and recognize) the Spirit of God: every spirit which acknowledges and confesses [the fact] that Jesus Christ (the Messiah) [actually] has become man and has come in the flesh is of God [has God for its source]; And every spirit which does not acknowledge and confess that Jesus Christ has come in the flesh [but would annul, destroy, sever, disunite Him] is not of God [does not proceed from Him]. This [nonconfession] is the [spirit] of the antichrist, [of] which you heard that it was coming, and now it is already in the world.

"A true prophet will live a godly life and will produce good fruit."  Matthew 7:15-18, 20 (AMP) Beware of false prophets, who come to you dressed as sheep, but inside they are devouring wolves.  You will fully recognize them by their fruits. Do people pick grapes from thorns, or figs from thistles? Even so, every healthy (sound) tree bears good fruit [worthy of admiration], but the sickly (decaying, worthless) tree bears bad (worthless) fruit. A good (healthy) tree cannot bear bad (worthless) fruit, nor can a bad (diseased) tree bear excellent fruit [worthy of admiration]. Every tree that does not bear good fruit is cut down and cast into the fire. Therefore, you will fully know them by their fruits.

"The predictions of a true prophet will come to pass." Deuteronomy 18:21-22 (AMP) And if you say in your [minds and] hearts, How shall we know which words the Lord has not spoken?  When a prophet speaks in the name of the Lord, if the word does not come to pass or prove true, that is a word which the Lord has not spoken. The prophet has spoken it presumptuously; you shall not be afraid of him.

Jeremiah
28:9 (AMP) But as for the prophet who [on the contrary] prophesies of peace, when that prophet's word comes to pass, [only] then will it be known that the Lord has truly sent him.

"Both men and women can be called as prophets of God." Acts 2:17-18 (AMP) And it shall come to pass in the last days, God declares, that I will pour out of My Spirit upon all mankind, and your sons and your daughters shall prophesy [telling forth the divine counsels] and your young men shall see visions (divinely granted appearances), and your old men shall dream [divinely suggested] dreams.   Yes, and on My menservants also and on My maidservants in those days I will pour out of My Spirit, and they shall prophesy [telling forth the divine counsels and [e]predicting future events pertaining especially to God's kingdom].

"...a spontaneous manifestation of God's grace, received by revelation, (sometimes as a vision, at other times as impressions or thoughts) and spoken by the Spirit through a Christian who has been given a gift of prophecy, in the language of those who hear the prophetic word spoken."

"The word prophecy means to "bubble up, to flow forth, or to cause to drop like rain."

"The true church, Just before Jesus returns, will again have the gift of prophecy, because it keeps the law of God by faith in Christ."

"Proclamation - official public announcement"

"Speaking God's word with power, revealing all His mysteries and making everything plain as day."

" Inspired speech"

"Prophecy deals with the future ;word of knowledge deals with the past and present."

Prophecy is "such an inspired message or prediction transmitted orally or in writing."

"Dance-To move rhythmically usually to music, using prescribed or improvised steps and gestures."  American Heritage Dictionary

Isaiah 61:1 The Spirit of the Lord GOD is upon me; because the LORD hath anointed me to preach good tidings unto the meek; he hath sent me to bind up the brokenhearted, to proclaim liberty to the captives, and the opening of the prison to them that are bound.

Jeremiah 1: 4-10 Then the word of the LORD came unto me, saying, before I formed thee in the belly I knew thee; and before thou camest forth out of the womb I sanctified thee, and I ordained thee a prophet unto the nations. Then said I, Ah, Lord GOD! Behold, I cannot speak: for I am a child. But the LORD said unto me, Say not, I am a child: for thou shalt go to all that I shall send thee, and whatsoever I command thee thou shalt speak. Be not afraid of their faces: for I am with thee to deliver thee, saith the LORD. Then the LORD put forth his hand, and touched my mouth. And the LORD said unto me, Behold, I have put my words in thy mouth. See, I have this day set thee over the nations and over the kingdoms, to root out, and to pull down, and to destroy, and to throw down, to build, and to plant.

I came across an audio message entitled "Why Pray" by Jimmy Nimon  Below are my notes.

***"If He's God than why didn't He just show mercy?"  Because men have been given authority over the earth.  He needed an authority in the earth so say "I come as a lawyer before the Earth who is guilty as charged and before you"  That's called an intercessor.  "I come as a mediator.  I come as one and God I'm pleading with you please show mercy because it's your nature.  I appeal to your mercy over your judgment.  Lord, I declare your mercy triumphs over judgment.  Though our nation desperately deserves it.  I want mercy."  And God were to speak "Okay, I will delay.  Go give this word to my people 'Turn from your sin' "
Amos 3:7 AMP says "Surely the Lord God will do nothing
without revealing His secret to His servants the prophets."
***See the prophets weren't just the people who heard the word of God and went running around declaring it.  That was the false prophets.  The true prophets were mediators.  They were intercessors.  They went before God and said "God what are you saying?  Oh God please have mercy."
***Abraham interceded for Sodom and Gomorrah in Genesis 18 and Moses interceded for God's people in Exodus 32:9-14 saying Lord, have mercy please turn away from your fierce anger.  Change your mind.
And again in Numbers 14:11-19 saying "Pardon, I pray You, the iniquity of this people according to the greatness of Your mercy and loving-kindness, just as You have forgiven [them] from Egypt until now" Joshua interceded in Joshua 7:9.  "Lord what will happen to your great name?"
***The Sovereign God knows what He is going to do.  Why this interaction with us?  Because He still requires an authority on the earth to do it.
***1 Kings 18:41-45 Elijah understood he was an authority in the earth.  He was an ambassador of God and he knew that unless he invited God to do it, it wouldn't get done.  Elijah prays.  Prophecy is given.  He declares it to the king and then he prays.  Elijah sees change.  God is looking for someone on earth to agree with His will in Heaven and bring His will to earth through prayer and obedience.
***Daniel 9-10 The angel came as a response because of Daniel's prayer.

Job 33:14-18 AMP  For God [does reveal His will; He] speaks not only once, but more than once, even though men do not regard it [including you, Job].  [One may hear God's voice] in a dream, in a vision of the night, when deep sleep falls on men while slumbering upon the bed,  Then He opens the ears of men and seals their instruction [terrifying them with warnings], That He may withdraw man from his purpose and cut off pride from him [disgusting him with his own disappointing self-sufficiency].  He holds him back from the pit [of destruction], and his life from perishing by the sword [of God's destructive judgments].

"I tell God 'I'm so sorry if I doubt. I don't doubt you speaking to me or you working in my life. I doubt myself hearing you correctly.'" Amber

"Trust in the ability of a Father that loves you to keep you is greater than the Devil's ability to deceive you."  --Todd Bently

"All you do is speak when God says speak if they get mad that's up to them BUT as they meditate on the word give it will move in them it might take a day, a week, a month or years either way it's powerful and is worth speaking even if you loose a friend..."  Amber

On Apr 12, 2007 A friend said "Happy Birthday Joanna."  And then gave me the verse 'Before I formed you in the womb I knew you, And before you were born I consecrated you; I have appointed you a prophet to the nations. Jer 1:5 (NASB)' Love, your Dad, Almighty God"

"Jesus never allowed us to question His Father and His Father's Word.  And every prophet in the Bible did the same.  Real prophets never allow man to question God.  They'll even allow man to question them and they'll even question themselves.  They'll never question God."  Jason Upton
